Incentive Compliance from the Other Side of the Table
Incentive compliance can determine whether a company realizes the benefits it was awarded. After the announcement, businesses still need to understand their agreements, track performance commitments, and complete the reporting required to claim and maintain those benefits.
In this episode of Let’s Talk Tax, Dave McGuire joins Brian Szymanski, CPA, and Alicia McFadyen from McGuire Sponsel’s Location Advisory team to explore what happens after incentives are secured. Drawing on consulting experience and Alicia’s previous work at the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, they explain how compliance requirements translate into day-to-day responsibilities.
The conversation covers common reporting mistakes, including ineligible employees and investments, and how acquisitions, relocations, and other business changes can affect existing agreements. Brian and Alicia also discuss missed filings, examples of companies catching up on reporting in Indiana, and why options vary by program and jurisdiction.
For CPAs and business advisors, the discussion offers practical questions to bring into client conversations: What incentives are in place? Who owns the reporting? Have headcount, ownership, or project plans changed? Are credit carryforwards being tracked?
Watch or listen to the full episode for a closer look at the follow-through that helps clients realize their incentive benefits.
