The role: McGuire Sponsel is currently seeking interns to assist our team during the summer of 2024. We are accepting applicants for both full-time and part-time internships. This position will primarily be focused in the firm’s Research & Development Tax Credit and Cost Segregation practice lines. This is an excellent opportunity for those who may be looking to differentiate themselves from the typical accounting or engineering career path in their field. You will be engaged in projects from start to finish, which includes meeting with clients, analyzing complex data, and preparing client reports. This will be a paid internship with an opportunity for full-time employment for the right candidate.

What you will do:

  • Provide support to managers and staff on projects within various software systems
  • Organize, save, and assist with data entry for digital/electronic files and information
  • Review and analyze all available documentation relevant to each project
  • Prepare client tax credit calculations and data analysis through use of Microsoft Excel
  • Prepare written technical narratives related to each project’s findings
  • Assist associates with on-site client visits and inspections to notate and document all necessary information applicable to each project
  • Cost estimating using RSMeans & Marshall Valuation Service
  • Other duties as assigned

What you will need:

  • Junior or senior class status, or completed Bachelor’s degree
  • Pursuit of degree in Accounting, Construction Management, Engineering or related business or technical fields
  • No prior experience with tax credits is necessary
  • Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Thrives in fast-paced, high-energy environment to meet project deadlines

The role: McGuire Sponsel is seeking an International Tax Manager for our Global Business Services team. This is an opportunity to learn from experienced technical leadership to expand and continue to develop your international tax skillset. What you will do:

  • Advise clients on international tax planning, including helping clients anticipate and understand the consequences and opportunities associated with global tax planning decisions
  • Direct multinational clients on business decisions, including geographic and cultural considerations, choice of entity, supply chain optimization, transfer pricing and efficient treasury management to fund global operations
  • Evaluate clients’ tax risk profile, global effective tax rate, and cash posture
  • Prepare and review complex tax models illustrating multinational entities’ attributes, effective tax rate, and cash tax expense
  • Structure the tax aspects of multinational mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, dispositions, and IPOs
  • Draft professional tax opinions, memoranda, presentations, and Excel models
  • Provide wide-ranging counsel on issues including IP migration, GILTI/Subpart F, treaty applicability and sophisticated structuring for both inbound and outbound clients
  • Demonstrate professionalism and promptness while fostering/managing client relationships
  • Manage a team of staff members by leading areas of technical training, professional development, and personnel management

What you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in accounting, finance, or related business field. CPA or JD desirable but not required
  • 6+ years of experience in international tax is necessary

What you will do:

  • Apply principles of computer science and technology to consult with clients on R&D Tax Credit engagements
  • Review and analyze all available financial data for each respective project

The role: As a consultant in our Fixed Asset Services practice, you will help our clients as you develop compliant and comprehensive cost segregation studies that maximize tax benefits. Our Cost Segregation team is responsible for utilizing construction cost estimating procedures to maximize tax depreciation which in turn reduces our client’s federal tax burden. We utilize a detailed engineering analysis requiring a detailed review of architectural documents as well as detailed on-site inspections. The information gathered is utilized to apply the proper asset classifications based on our in-depth knowledge of the Tax Code.

What you will do:

  • Effectively communicate with CPAs and clients to understand goals and needs.
  • Review and analyze all available construction cost documentation for a respective project.
  • Examine any available construction blueprint/drawings to identify and properly classify all depreciable assets.
  • Conduct on-site inspections to notate and document the nature and use of all depreciable property.
  • Cost estimating using programs such as RSMeans & Marshall Valuation Service when actual costs are not available.
  • Prepare detailed schedules & reports summarizing and supporting the results of our depreciation analysis.
