Cost Segregation Intern

McGuire Sponsel is currently seeking an intern to assist our Cost Segregation team during the 2017 spring semester. This is an excellent opportunity for those who may be looking to differentiate themselves from the typical career path. Cost Segregation involves utilizing construction cost estimating procedures to maximize tax depreciation, which in turn reduces our client’s federal tax burden. This internship will provide a unique experience developing skills involving the construction process and tax law. This will be a paid internship, with an opportunity for full-time employment for the right candidate.

RESPONSIBILITIES/EXPECTATIONS:

  • Learn to review and analyze all available construction cost documentation for a respective project.
  • Examine any available construction blueprints/drawings to identify and properly classify all depreciable assets.
  • Assist associates with on-site inspections to notate and document the nature and use of all depreciable property.
  • Perform cost estimating using programs such as RSMeans & Marshall Valuation Service.
  • Assist the Cost Segregation team by preparing detailed schedules & reports summarizing and supporting the results of our analysis.

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Junior or senior class status, or completed Bachelor’s degree.
  • Pursuing or completion of degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Accounting, or related fields.
  • No prior experience with Cost Segregation is necessary.
  • Existing knowledge of construction process, practices, and techniques is desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Thrives in fast-paced, high energy environment to meet project deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to visit clients with associates locally & nationwide.

R&D Tax Credit Consultant

Our firm’s Research & Development Tax Credit Practice is growing quickly and in need of an R&D Tax Consultant. In this consultant role, you will conduct Research & Development Tax Credit studies for our clients by combining an understanding of tax law with engineering disciplines. You will be engaged in projects from start to finish, which includes meeting with clients, analyzing complex data, and preparing client reports. The position requires excellent written/verbal communication skills, confidence/professionalism to speak with high-level executives, project management skills, and the ability to work well with others in a team atmosphere. This position provides the right professional with immediate client responsibilities and opportunities for future advancement. DESIRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree with concentrations in accounting, engineering, or related fields.
  • No prior experience with tax credits is necessary.
  • 1 – 3 years of accounting or engineering experience is desirable.
  • Recent college graduate applications will be accepted and considered.
  • Knowledge of engineering is helpful, but not required.
  • Consultative mindset; strong interpersonal skills; excels in client situations.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced and deadline driven environment.

Cost Segregation Consultant

Our firm’s Cost Segregation Practice is growing quickly and provides the right professional with the ability to advance quickly. Cost Segregation involves utilizing construction cost estimating procedures to maximize tax depreciation which in turn reduces our client’s federal tax burden. Our Cost Segregation practice utilizes a detailed engineering analysis requiring a detailed review of architectural documents as well as detailed on-site inspections. The information gathered is utilized to apply the proper asset classifications based on our indepth knowledge of the Tax Code.

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree with concentrations in accounting, construction management, or engineering.
  • No prior experience with tax credits is necessary.
  • 1 – 5 years relevant construction or engineering experience is desirable.
  • Thrives in fast-paced, high energy environment.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Confidence and professionalism to effectively communicate via email, phone, and in person with high level executives.
  • Existing knowledge of tax law in its relation to depreciation, construction practices, civil engineering, or cost estimating procedures is desirable.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Local & nationwide travel required (up to 30%).
